Visit to the Cave of Saint-Léonard

Venture underground and discover the Saint-Leonard Cave, a unique natural cavity located in the heart of Montreal, in Pie-XII Park (5200 Lavoisier Boulevard).


Since 1981, Spéléo Québec has been offering guided tours to explore this fascinating environment in complete safety.


Whether you're curious, adventurous, or simply looking for an out-of-the-ordinary activity, two guided tours are available to you. All necessary equipment is provided: helmet, headlamp, and harness.

General informations

Bookings are made online, directly on the Spéléo Québec website platform, by credit card.


We recommend booking in advance to secure your spot. If availability remains, it is however possible to book up until the day before your visit.

How to get there?

The Saint-Leonard Cave is located in Pie-XII Park, in the heart of the Saint-Leonard borough in Montreal.


5200 boulevard Lavoisier, Saint-Léonard, Qc. 

H1R 0A9


Upon arrival, follow the signs and make your way to the side of the park pavilion (the building with the red roof), facing the wooded area, to meet your Spéléo Québec guides.


If you arrive early, the guides may be underground at that time. They will join you shortly.


Free parking is available on site as well as on surrounding streets.


You can also get there by public transit or by bike.

Before your visit

  1. Reserve your spot : Choose the date and the tour that suits you and complete your reservation online. An online payment by credit card is required to confirm your booking.

  2. Fill out the risk acceptance form : Each adult must fill out and submit the form before the visit date, including any children in their care, if applicable.  

  3. Review the information sent and prepare yourself : Take the time to read the information received after your booking as well as the details on our website in order to properly prepare for your visit.

During your visit

  1. Arrival and welcome : Make your way to the park welcome pavilion (the building with the red roof) at least 15 minutes early and check in with the Spéléo Québec guides.

  2. On-site facilities : Restrooms are available on site, along with a cloakroom where you can leave your bags.

  3. Presentation and safety briefing The visit begins with a short presentation of the activity and the cave, followed by a review of essential safety guidelines.

  4. Equipment : Helmets, headlamps, and harnesses are provided on site. The guides will help you adjust them.

  5. Access to the cave : A short group walk brings you to the entrance of the cave.

  6. Guided exploration : Throughout the activity, trained interpreter-guides accompany you. Feel free to ask them any questions.

  7. Return to the pavilion : At the end of the activity, the group walks back together to the starting pavilion.

How to dress?

The temperature inside the cave is approximately 10 °C (50 °F).


Plan to wear warm clothes that you don't mind getting dirty, as the cave is a muddy environment. You should expect to come into contact with mud during the visit.


You must wear rain boots or, failing that, closed-toe shoes that can get wet. Gloves are also recommended.


Sandals, Crocs, and any footwear that does not stay securely on your feet or does not protect your toes are strictly prohibited.


We strongly suggest bringing a change of clothes for after the activity.


Helmets with headlamps and harnesses are provided on site.


Please ensure your hairstyle is compatible with wearing a helmet safely; any headwear must not interfere with its proper fit or stability.


In case of rain: The tour takes place as planned, regardless of outdoor weather conditions.

Other important informations

Children must be accompanied : Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.


Personal belongings : Bags must be left in the cloakroom. You may bring a phone and other small items that fit in your pockets. You remain responsible for your personal belongings throughout the visit, and we strongly recommend leaving all valuables at home. We are not responsible for any loss, theft, or damage to personal belongings. 


No drugs, alcohol, or tobacco : The consumption of any substance, including alcohol, tobacco, and cannabis, is strictly prohibited during the visit. Smoking and vaping are also prohibited throughout the activity. 


Safety and compliance : Spéléo Québec reserves the right to end the activity at any time if one or more participants compromise their own safety or that of the group. No refund will be issued in such a situation.

Modify or cancel a reservation

  • No-show If you do not show up for the visit, no refund will be issued.

  • More than 48 hours before the activity (72 hours for groups of 12 or more), you may  :

    • Modify or reschedule the booking at no charge;

    • Cancel and receive a partial refund of 90%. A 10% transaction fee is non-refundable.

  • Less than 48 hours before the activity (72 hours for groups of 12 or more):
    • No modifications or refunds are possible.

  • Cancellation by Spéléo Québec : 100% refunded.

In the event that you are unable to attend due to injury or illness, a refund for the person concerned may be issued upon presentation of valid proof from a physician.

Carte Accompagnement Loisir

As part of its commitment to inclusion and accessibility, Spéléo Québec participates in the Carte accompagnement loisir (CAL) program.


Upon presentation of the CAL, the person with a disability pays their admission, while the person accompanying them and providing assistance is admitted free of charge.

Parcours Découverte

Description

​The Parcours Découverte of the Saint-Leonard Cave is an immersive experience that invites families and friends to explore a unique underground world.


For approximately 1 hour 30 minutes, our interpreter-guides accompany you through a natural environment shaped by millions of years of history. This activity is ideal for sparking curiosity and discovering the world of caving. This tour is accessible to all experience levels.


You will explore the historical section of the cave as well as the first gallery of the new section opened in 2017.


The majority of the tour is done walking upright. However, some sections require:

  • clipping onto a safety line for your protection

  • briefly crouching down

  • using ladders to access certain areas

A helmet, lighting, and a safety harness will be provided.

Participation requirements

  • No prior experience is required to participate in the tour.

  • The minimum age is 6 years, based on the minimum height requirement.

  • The maximum group size that can visit the cave at one time is 12 people.

  • The supervision ratio is 2 interpreter-guides per group.

For safety reasons, the following harness size requirements are mandatory. If these criteria are not met, participation in the activity will not be possible:

  • Minimum height : 110 cm (3 ft 7 in)

  • Maximum waist circumference : 120 cm

These limits are essential to ensure your safety.

  • ​Adult (18 to 64 years): $22.25 + taxes

Prices include a $1.10 membership fee as an apprentice member of Spéléo Québec for the duration of your visit. This membership fee will be indicated at the time of booking.

Parcours Aventure

Description

​The Parcours Aventure is a tour designed for adventure enthusiasts who wish to explore the Saint-Leonard Cave more deeply.


You will discover the historical section of the cave and explore the new section opened in 2017 through a guided aerial course that ends on a floating dock.


The tour lasts approximately 3 hours.


The majority of the tour allows you to walk upright. However, some sections require:

  • clipping onto a safety line for your protection

  • briefly crouching down

  • using ladders to access certain areas

  • the aerial section requires progressing along rungs fixed into the rock face

A helmet, lighting, and a safety harness will be provided.

Participation requirements

  • No prior experience is required to participate in the tour.

  • ​Good physical endurance is necessary for this activity:

    • You must be able to move along rungs;

    • You must be able to handle carabiners and lanyards;

    • Some sections of the course (traversing sideways) require some upper body effort.

  • The minimum age is 10 years, provided the minimum height requirement is met.

For safety reasons, the following harness size requirements are mandatory. If these criteria are not met, participation in the activity will not be possible:

  • Minimum height : 130 cm (4 ft 3 in)

  • Maximum waist circumference : 120 cm

These limits are essential to ensure the safety of all participants.

  • 10% discount for groups of 4 people or more.
